NPR Gay Marriage

While this issue probably isn't going to have much influence on the Nov elections, it does represent a clear failure of today's Republicans to understand conservative values...at least my version of conservative values. In general, the less the government is involved in my life the happier I am.

The government should have never recognized "marriage" certificates - for legal purposes - issued by NGOs in the first place.
The government should have, instead, issued domestic contracts (or whatever name you prefer) between consenting adults, regardless of sex.

Let the churches define marriage however they want...but why grant their ceremonies or certificates any legal standing?

Let the government perform ceremonies and issue certificates that *do* carry legal standing.

We've made this way too hard and too divisive for too long. My party let me down.
